Photo: the end

Today, Carolyn's trip draws to a close. She is currently in the air, somewhere between Hong Kong and Vancouver. This photo was taken one lovely evening during her cruise last Christmas.

Photo: buzz

Another photo from Scotland. Man, if I was going to complain about the last one, imagine what I have to say about this one! I mean, you can see the pollen on the bee's back!

Photo: butterfly

Carolyn snapped a shot of this butterfly while we were hiking Goderich. I will refrain from grumbling about how she can get better close-up photos than I can. I'll leave that for another post ;)

Photo: the land of green hills and blue skies

This photo was taken on our trip to Scotland last summer. I really like this photo, although it almost doesn't do Scotland justice... it's just so lush and green and vibrant over there. Everyone should go to Scotland at least once. And take me with you! :)

Photo: hermit crab

This hermit crab kindly posed for Carolyn during her cruise last Christmas.

Photo: misty bay

Carolyn took this photo on a trip to the east coast. I love this one. The mist adds a mystical (pardon the quasi-pun) quality to the photo, and the tree is so majestic, yet fragile.

Photo: tulips

A photo of some tulips from the Ottawa Tulip Festival in 2005.

Photo: weekend!

Carolyn took this photo while on her cruise in 2005.

Photo: I get great reception!

I'm betting Carolyn took this photo while camping.

Photo: blue bell

I think Carolyn took this photo when we were up-north, around Tobermory. I'm not entirely sure what type of flower it is.

Photo: Eileen Donan

Carolyn took this photograph of Eileen Donan during our trip to Scotland. For those movie buffs out there, this castle was featured in the movie "The Highlander".

Photo: Happy Valentine's Day!

Photo: From the edge of the known world

Carolyn took this photo on a trip to Point Pelee. We are taking the photo from the southern-most point (connected to the mainland) in Canada.

Photo: Only you can prevent forest fires...

Carolyn took this photo when we went to Snowshoe Valley Ski Resort in West Virginia.

Photo: The butterfly soars

Carolyn took this picture while on her winter cruise in 2004.

Photo: The gulls of New York

This photo was taken on a trip to New York, when we were in Richmond, VA.

The Carolyn Report: 8 o'clock edition

Good evening. Sources say that Carolyn has safely arrived in the city of Changping after a brief stopover in Hong Kong. She was noted to be sleepy, but encouraged by the in-room jacuzzi. More updates at 11.

With Carolyn being gone for two weeks, I figured it would be a good opportunity to show off some of the awesome photos that she's taken over the past year. I'll post one picture for each day she's gone... since she left on Friday, I'll post three today.

So she's leaving on a jet plane...

In less than 9 hours, Carolyn will be flying westward to Vancouver, and ultimately to Hong Kong, on her two-week business trip. The final destination is some city in southern China... I don't recall the name. The packing is done, and now for some sleep before the limo arrives at 6am. Fortunately she'll have plenty of time to sleep during the 20-some-odd hours it takes to get there. Now I've got to figure out how to feed myself... any ideas?

In other news, I'll be going to Arizona for a month, in March. And this time, Carolyn will be visiting, so she'll finally get to see the mother of all canyons, la Canyon Grande. I'm still not convinced that the mule rides are such a great idea.

Anyway, here's wishing Carolyn a safe flight, and I hope the six-star hotel in HK doesn't spoil her too much. ;)

Photos: St. Jacobs hike

Breaking in the new lens

Carolyn, Ryan, Joy, and I went on a walk around St. Jacobs today, taking advantage of the rare winter weather. So I decided to put my lens through the paces. Here are some sample shots... they aren't all that great, but they do demonstrate the fantastic range of focal lengths. The frigid conditions made me very thankful that I did not need to switch lenses. The VR (vibration reduction) does actually work pretty well. I will post some comparison photos later on.

Why my most expensive lens is now my favourite...

Well, because I spent a crapload of money on it, that's why! But it's a thing of beauty. Take a look at it here. I'll definitely be posting some pictures this weekend, so stay tuned!
